Suicide Squad Movie Review

6:57 PM

So here I am, fresh out of the cinema, sitting in front of my laptop and typing what I think about the movie. Suicide Squad is one of my most anticipated movie of the year, and I'm so happy I see it on it's first day!

In case any of you is living under the rock, basically, Suicide Squad is a task force that are made from villains to protect the world. How interesting does that sound? I mean, we have our heroes gang. The Avengers. Guardians of the Galaxy. Star Trek. Star Wars. Order of the Phoenix. And finally, we get our villains gang! Yay! It also has well-known stars, as well as newcomers.

While I really enjoyed the movie, there are, unfortunately, some things that are miss for me. I'll write this review in a list form to make it easier for you guys. Don't worry, it doesn't have any spoiler!

The Good

  • The characters as an individual is amazing. All of them are really different and unique, I really want to know them all more. But from what we already know, each of them has an interesting backstory.
  • Jared freaking Leto. His acting as the Joker is pretty amazing. He scares me a bit. I usually fall for the bad guys, but even I can see how dangerous the Joker is. He's not a character to be romanticized and to fall in love with. Also, there is this scene where the real Jared Leto appear, not the one with Joker make up, and the echelon inside me just can't handle him.
  • I realize how problematic Joker is, but I really like the relationship between Joker and Harley! (I know how abusive they are in the comic)
  • Diablo. He's so freaking awesome, both as a person and his power.
  • Margot Robbie's acting as Harley Quinn is A+++. Out of the topic, but she's really lucky to starred movies with 2 hotties this year (Alexander Skarsgård and Jared Leto)
  • The visual is amazing.
  • The humor in this movie also really made me laugh out loud several times.
  • Also, the soundtrack is amazing.

The Bad

  • Deadshot and Harley Quinn are like the main player in the gang, while the rest of them are just side characters. The rest of them are also amazing guys, and I really want to know more about them!
  • Not enough Joker. He seems like a really big deal in the promotion, but he only get little screen time in the movie.
  • Like I said above, Jared's acting as the Joker is amazing, but the lack of screen time makes Joker's craziness doesn't seem really visible and doesn't really leave any impression. Granted, this movie is about the squad, not Joker. But I was still hoping for something more.
  • I don't really like Cara's acting in this one?? I haven't seen any of her movies tho so idk if it's just this movie or on others.
  • The plot is a bit convulted. It jumps from one thing to another, and it just doesn't flow really well.

Overall rating: 7.5/10

Would I see it again? Yes.

So, tell me guys: Are you one of those people that can't wait for this movie? And what do you think about it?

  1. I've seen all the trailers for this movie, but I have yet to actually go see it! I've been a little concerned about how it will be, since it's a gathering of a bunch of really iconic bad guys, and there have been times where people have portrayed bad guys poorly. But I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to watching this one!

    1. I think the movie have done a pretty good job in potraying the characters as the individual, except for the enchantress and her brother (they were kind of a crappy villain) but not-so-good as a squad. I hope you'll like it!

  2. Ahhh! My friend is desperate to watch this film and keeps going on about the joker so i think she'd be disappointed in the lack of screen-time, but she loves Harley so that might make up for it!
I saw Cara in Paper Towns and thought it was alright..nothing spectacular but she was believable enough I guess.
    Loved your review!

    1. Ooh I get what your friends feeling! The Joker is literally what pumped me up the most for this movie, but when I was watching it I was like "THAT'S IT???" So yeah, a bit dissapointed.

  3. I've been really on the fence about seeing this one. I'm more of a Marvel girl myself, but I still enjoy DC and especially the Joker. The trailers never did impress me much, though, other than the music. And cara delevigne wasn't that impressive in Paper Towns to me, so I don't expect much from her really. I'll probably see this anyway though ☺️ awesome review and I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

  4. I wanted to love this one so bad because I love the story but I didn't :(
Robbie was amazing as Harley and so was Amanda Waller's character and acting. And omg, the joker was so good but they ended up cutting almost all of his scenes. I would watch a Joker/Harley movie!

I think they focused too much on Will Smith and not enough of the other characters. Captain Boomerang threw like 4 boomerangs so I feel cheated. I thought Diable was very stereotyped and holy shit Cara's acting was AWFUL! I hated everything having to do with her and the Enchantress storyline, it made the movie so cheesy.

I agree that it felt choppy which is sad since it had SO MUCH potential! I honestly think they did the SS storyline better on Arrow..

Glad you liked it better than I did :)

    1. I would also love to watch a Joker/Harley movie! Can we also talk about how Killer Croc only has like, 1 line?? And yes, Cara's acting was really awful in this movie. There are also to many plot holes... The more I think about this movie the more I find things to be complained tbh.

  5. Ahhh I have been debating on whether to see this in the cinema, so your review definitely helped out! I heard about Joker/Harley's relationship in this one, even though they are pretty abusive in the comics it's kind of disturbing. I even heard that Will Smith aka. Deadshot was a side character too! Kind of disappointing, but I'm glad you enjoyed it Tasya!

  6. I've really been debating on going to see this one or not. I'm still rather up in the air about it. I've been hearing the same thing. That the Joker was really played up but didn't get much screen time. I know it's a small thing (relatively speaking), but I really hate the costume design for him so I'm kind of glad to hear he doesn't have much screen time.

    1. Yeah the appearance also don't go well for me. I didn't like the tattoos (what's up with the HAHAs and the damaged one) and the fake teeth...
