And also let's don't forget about how "tough" this book feels for me. It's just so military-ish (what is the word guys??? halp.) and full of politics and other intrigue. Running the country, or a rebel group, or organizing a rebellion is never as easy as it seems.

1.  Lena. Let's just say I didn't like the main character. Lena is too nervous about everything, she's too emotional, and she's spineless. Sure, I get it. With her mother's death, everyone expects her to end up just like her, thus make her extra-careful. But one minute she's like "no, love is forbidden blah blah blah" the next moment she's kissing and make out with Alex. I thought she would be extra careful, distrust Alex, and generally have more walls. But no. For a girl who's afraid of love, she fell really fast for Alex.
2. The World Building. I admit, Lauren Oliver does a really good job in the world building. It's too damn good that I actually won't live it in. I thought it was supposed to be a world without love. But it was also a world without laugh, hugs, music and books! Which means it's boring. Which is why I don't like it. It's just boring and dull and just.... gray. Just imagine it guys, a world without laugh, hugs, books, music, and love.
I think, in terms of the ideology, I could see where the idea came from. A world without love supposed to be a world that is "safe" and "under control". But it doesn't make it a better place. The people there are emotionless, because apperently love affects desire and happines and emotions. And with love gone, so do the other things. The people are just content with their life, but they aren't heavy. They're pretty much detached.
3. Side characters. Since the world is so boring, so is the people in it. They're basically emotionless, they don't laugh, they don't dance. Some of them even kill their children because they don't love them *shudders* So yeah they're basically emotionless robots.
4. The plot twist is predictable?? I don't know, even though this is a re-read, I remember guessed it on my first read. In a book where the world and the characters are dull, I expect something, anything to surprise me. But nothing!

What's your opinion on this book? Did you like it? If you don't, what's your problem with this book?

“She sank to her knees and lifted her head. She had become so accustomed to the rippling blue tides closing her in, pressing down on her, but this sky was open . . . this night was infinite. She felt like she might fall upward forever, drifting into space. Floating across the stars. Sable had spoken of embers scattered across the roof of the universe. It was a good description.”

Like Through the Ever Night, I also have conflicted feelings about this book. It started pretty well, with the Aether getting more often and worse, the Tides are stuck inside the cave. Meanwhile Cinder is still held captive by Sable and Hess, and the clock is ticking before they're stuck forever because the Aether is getting worse. The race for the Still Blue has officially began.

Like all the previous books, this book also has fast-paced and action packed plot. There's no rest for the characters. But they're determined to beat Hess and Sable, retrieve Cinder and go to the Still Blue. The Dwellers and the Tides finally come together, realising that they want the same thing.

It's just... the plot twist isn't that strong for me. *spoiler Loran is Aria's father? Where did that come from??? I just find it unbelieveable. I don't even realize that it was suppose to be a major plot to the story. I don't think Aria's father is an important part to the story, but it was. *spoiler ends. I just find it irrelevant and not important for the story, so I don't really care at all. And I was so pissed when they tried to save Cinder and *spoiler Roar turned back, and thus made all of them caught. And then they tried to escape but they keep failing! Someone always fail them! But it gives them time to bond. But it pissed me! *spoiler ends.

Let me just say: They did reach the Still Blue. But the price was too high. *spoiler Cinder??? He deserves happiness okay. He just feel like he's a part of something, he just started to live. I keep hoping that he will survive, but nope. Veronica Rossi is just too cruel. And Hess' death was too brutal, it wasn't even necessary. *spoiler ends. And the ending. Was it really that easy to defeat Sable?

Overall, I think this book could be better. I just wished for something more, and it ends up anti-climatic for me. But I quite enjoyed it though, and if you liked Through the Ever Night then this book shouldn't dissapoint you.

P.S: I'm really sorry about the excessive spoilers! But I really need to write them to prove my point! X

Review:

• Social injustice? Check
• The lower castes lives in extreme poverty while the higher castes enjoy lavish luxury? Check
• The country is on a brink of rebellion? Check

Just basic elements of dystopian novels. BUT THEN.

• The country is losing war with other country? the selection
• The silvers with amazing superpowers? Shatter me
• The castes divided by blood? Red Rising

The cover looks pretty plain, but when you hold the physical copy and it reflected the light, it is so damn gorgeous.

Review:

I watched in confusion as a red-marked guard walked up behind Celeste and put a bullet squarely through the back of her head.

She killed her. Kiera Cass killed Celeste in one short paragraph which contains only one sectence.
What's the point of showing the real Celeste and then kill her???

Queen Amberly and King Clarkson. I see that Clarkson has to be killed so Maxon could be a king. But I rather have him survived, Maxon explains everything to him, and watch him trying to control Maxon (but ofc he can't anymore) As for Queen Amberly, I feel really bad for her. She almost got her daughter. So close. She's been the nicest person in the palace, the one who accepts the girls and guide them through the selection process. She's gone now. Who's going to give America advice about being a queen when she need it?

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. I feel hatred, sympathy, sadness, loss, grief, love, happiness, loyalty, and friendship through the pages, through the story and the character. I loved every second of reading this book, and this series will have a special place in my heart.

Thank you so much Kiera Cass for the amazing journey and experience with America.
